Volunteers and providers ensure future of community clubs in Hampshire and Dorset
Brendoncare recently carried out a review of the community services it provides for older people. As part of that process, a number of community clubs in Hampshire and Dorset were placed at risk of closure, pending discussions with other local organisations who might be willing to step in and support them to continue.
Following these discussions and with support of its volunteers, Brendoncare has announced that more than 90% of the clubs will remain open with alternative providers now running them.
Equipment:
To support the continuation of the clubs, Brendoncare has donated equipment to them and also organised a series of informational webinars for volunteers interested in taking their clubs forward independently.
Michael Crutchley, Chief Executive of Brendoncare, said: “The decision we made earlier this year was not taken lightly as we were fully aware of the impact it would have on members in the communities we were serving.
“The outcome that has been achieved is fantastic and I am so proud of all Brendoncare’s colleagues and volunteers who worked tirelessly to make it happen.”
Martine Martin, Brendoncare’s Head of Membership said: “Thank you to all of the members and volunteers who came to us with ideas and suggestions, activating their networks and supporting our discussions with local organisations. We could not have had this result without everyone coming together and using their passion to save the clubs they love.
Assistance:
“I would also like to thank all of the local organisations who got in touch to offer their assistance. The response we received was truly touching.”
James Roberts, Head of Volunteering said: “This outcome is also down to the handful of truly special volunteers who have decided to step in and continue their clubs directly. So many volunteers have really gone above and beyond to help support members through this time. I know that everyone at Brendoncare has been inspired by their hard work and dedication.”
