Volunteers Week 2026: Rivinu
In between studying for and taking his A-levels, 17-year-old Rivinu Ariyawansa is making a big impact as a volunteer at Brendoncare Otterbourne Hill.
Rivinu spends his time at the care home, chatting with residents, building friendships and sharing memorable moments with them. But he also brings joy to the residents when he plays their favourite songs on the piano.
There are many reasons why Rivinu is passionate about volunteering. He hopes to become a doctor, and he sees volunteering as an ideal opportunity to gain insight into the world of social care.
Here in this video, Rivinu talks about his volunteering experiences and why it means so much to him.
Such is his dedication, Rivinu has also been awarded the Brendoncare Extra Mile Award—a testament to the positive difference he’s making.
We would love to hear from any students who are considering a career in social or health care and would like to gain some valuable experience volunteering in our care home or at our community clubs.
