Volunteers Week 2026: Hilary & Lester
To mark Volunteers’ Week this week, we’re celebrating the incredible people who make a real difference at Brendoncare through their dedication and kindness supporting our community clubs and care homes.
Today, we’re pleased to introduce two outstanding volunteers, Hilary Trevithick and Lester Parry, who have both received wider recognition for their work.
Hilary was a finalist in the 2025 Hampshire Care Awards’ Volunteer Hero category for her tireless work with Winchester Weeke Friendship Club, one of Brendoncare’s longest-running clubs.
A volunteer for more than 11 years, Hilary consistently goes beyond to support others. Each Friday, she personally collects club members and drives them to the Weeke Community Centre, where she organises a lively and varied programme of activities – from guest talks and quizzes to games and outings with other clubs. Hilary’s warmth and dedication help create a welcoming environment where people feel valued.
Hilary’s impact extends beyond the club. She worked as a volunteer for Brendoncare’s telephone support service, offering companionship to those who may feel isolated, and actively champions our work by raising awareness and supporting fundraising efforts.
Lester Parry is Brendoncare’s Volunteer of the Year, having been a regular, welcome visitor at our Meadway care home for the past 10 years. Whether sharing a cup of tea, chatting, or helping with daily activities, his calm and friendly approach brings comfort and companionship to all.
Lester remains modest, volunteering simply because he knows residents enjoy his visits. His service builds on earlier volunteering in the Chaplaincy department at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital.
We cannot thank our volunteers enough. Volunteers are a very special breed of people. They embody the kind of compassion, generosity, and selflessness that we all aspire to. Their commitment, kindness, and unique qualities are absolutely vital to Brendoncare, and the difference they make to the lives of our residents and members is immeasurable. We truly would not be able to do what we do without them.
