Dementia Action Week 2026
Dementia Action Week taking place between 18th to 24th May, is an important national campaign to raise awareness of dementia and challenge misconceptions surrounding the condition.
According to the Alzheimer’s Society, dementia affects nearly one million people in the UK as well as countless families, friends and carers who support them every day. This figure is expected to rise to around 1.4 million in 2040 as the population grows older.
Highlighting the need for understanding and compassion is therefore essential to ensuring people living with dementia can lead fulfilling lives and feel valued.
At Brendoncare, we are proud to support Dementia Action Week and play our part in championing awareness, compassion and high-quality care. Dementia support is central to the care we offer at four of our homes: Brendoncare Alton, Brendoncare Froxfield, Brendoncare Otterbourne Hill and Brendoncare St Giles View.
We also extend support at our community hubs at Brendoncare Otterbourne Hill and Brendoncare Knightwood, offering Singing for the Brain sessions at both venues alongside a fortnightly Memory Lane Café at Otterbourne Hill.
Throughout Dementia Action Week, members of the Brendoncare team will be out in the community, taking part in a range of local events arranged by partner organisations including Home Instead in Winchester and Dementia Friendly West Berkshire in Newbury.
Upcoming Dementia Events
On Monday 18th May, we will be attending several events:
- A Dementia Support and Information Fair from 10am to 2pm at the Education Centre, Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester
- An information session for carers and people living with dementia from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at Winchester Baptist Church, City Road
- A Dementia Information Fair from 1pm to 3pm at the Waterside Centre, Waldegrave Place, Northbrook Street, Newbury
Later in the week, on Thursday 21st May and Friday 22nd May, you’ll also find us at Winchester Market between 9am and 3pm, where we’ll be joining Home Instead at their stall to talk with members of the public.
