Brendoncare marks International Volunteer Managers Day
Our volunteer managers play a very important part in changing the lives of people at Brendoncare – the volunteers themselves and the hundreds of people that our volunteers support in our care homes and communities we serve.
International Volunteer Managers Day today (5th November) was founded and first observed in 1999. Its aim is to recognise individual managers of volunteers and their roles in mobilising and supporting volunteers across the globe.
Why is it important to recognise volunteer managers as well as volunteers?
Those leading volunteers have the skills, knowledge, and expertise to empower people to get involved to meet the needs of the communities in which we all live.
We can honestly say that volunteer managers change the lives of our volunteers; also, those of the people who our volunteers support with their work. At Brendoncare, those are our members, residents, and colleagues. Without our managers’ professional leadership, people’s time, talents, and efforts could be wasted.
How do we support our volunteers at Brendoncare?
We have a small but dedicated volunteering team, led by James Roberts, Head of Volunteering. They support volunteers across the charity, including those who volunteer in our clubs, community services – both in person and remotely, and care homes.
Our volunteering team leads the direction of the volunteering strategy, recruit new volunteers, provides training and ongoing support to ensure we give volunteers an excellent overall experience.
In 2023, Brendoncare proudly became the recipient of an Investing in Volunteers Award for the fourth year running.
James Roberts says:
“This IVM Day, I want to recognise and thank my colleagues who don’t have ‘Volunteer Manager’ in their title but are very much volunteer leaders in their own right! From our Locality Managers and Club Supports in our clubs, to our Wellbeing Coordinators in our homes and Central Office Administrators too, we wouldn’t be able engage with and support as many volunteers as we do without their dedicated support”.
Get involved!
