Gosport Open Day
Brendoncare provides clubs and support services across Hampshire and Dorset to help alleviate loneliness and isolation among older people. To help spread the work about our work, we held an Open Day on Tuesday (20th August) at our Gosport Centre, one of our most popular community hubs.
We opened the doors at The Anchorage to welcome in the local community for an afternoon of fun and activities.
More than 60 people – members, volunteers and visitors from the town, came along. We were also pleased to welcome Gosport Deputy Mayor Kirsten Bradley, pictured left. Also joining us were town councillor Cllr Zoe Huggins and Cllr Lesley Meegnahan, who represents Gosport on Hampshire County Council. All three of our special guests chatted with volunteers, members and visitors.
Visitors to the Open Day had a chance to find out more about our community and online clubs for older people. They also took part in some games and tried their luck in the tombola and raffle.
Our Fareham Lunch Club cooks, Lin and Lynne, served up tasty bacon and sausage baps. For those with a sweeter tooth, there was a huge array of
homemade cakes baked by members and volunteers to enjoy with a cuppa.
The team of volunteers showcased their dedication to and enthusiasm for our clubs and services, not to mention their fundraising skills, with £353.40 raised pounds raised on the day.
This money will go towards supporting future club activities.
Martine Martin, Brendoncare’s Head of Membership said: “It was a fantastic afternoon. We were thrilled so many visitors came along to see what we do. As a result, we have already signed up three new members! They will get a very warm welcome when they come along the clubs. Also, special thanks to our amazing team of volunteers, who, as ever, worked so hard to make this event so successful.”
