Investing in Volunteers award – Brendoncare’s proud record
This week is Volunteers Week. Throughout this week, we have recognised the amazing people who give up their time and share their numerous skills and talents to support Brendoncare. Our care homes, community clubs, telephone and digital support services all benefit from the devotion of our wonderful volunteers.
Brendoncare take the whole business of volunteering very seriously. We are the proud holder of the Investing in Volunteers award, receiving the much coveted Quality Mark for the fourth time in 2023.
Investing in Volunteers (IiV) is the UK quality standard for all organisations involving volunteers. It aims to improve the quality of the volunteering experience for all involved. It also demonstrates that organisations value the enormous contribution made by volunteers.
In December 2023, Brendoncare was assessed against six quality areas and excelled in all aspects of working with its volunteers. At the time of the award, the Chair of UKVF (the Awarding Body) said: “UKVF is delighted to announce Brendoncare’s successful achievement of this award. They have demonstrated a real commitment to volunteering, proven that their volunteer management policies and procedures meet nationally recognised standards.”
The Quality Mark is unique in that it is the only standard that focuses on volunteers. It is based on the following six quality areas:
- Vision for Volunteering
- Planning for Volunteers
- Volunteer inclusion
- Recruiting and welcoming volunteers
- Supporting volunteers
- Valuing and developing volunteers

The Assessor said: “During the assessment, there was a real sense of energy and ambition, more creativity and innovation than was noticeable during previous assessments. Within that the profile of volunteering is high, with recognition that volunteers will form a key part of Brendoncare’s forward strategy.”
James Roberts, Brendoncare’s Head of Volunteering, said: “I am immensely proud of the contribution volunteers at Brendoncare make. Last year, Brendoncare volunteers collectively contributed an incredible 29,000 hours. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone for their dedication supporting our members and residents. Their kindness, enthusiasm and gift of time has an invaluable positive impact on the lives of others”.
