Celebrating Brendoncare’s volunteers – Ami Talpallikar

To celebrate Volunteers’ Week this week (3rd – 9th June), we are sharing stories about our fantastic volunteers. Ami Talpallikar is one of the Wellbeing and Activities Volunteers at our Brendoncare Knightwood care home.

Ami started volunteering with Brendoncare to improve her communication skills and confidence. She is also using this opportunity to gain experiences that will help her with a future career in Medicine.

A typical volunteering session for Ami usually consists of helping the Wellbeing Coordinators prepare. She encourages the residents to participate in activities such as quizzes, board games, bingo and occasionally indoor archery!

The Easter Bingo/quiz was one of many highlights for Ami. She loved seeing the residents get competitive with one another and excited to win whilst laughing and having fun.

Connect:

Volunteering provides Ami with the chance to connect with people with whom she usually wouldn’t interact. This happens within a comforting community. She speaks about the calmness it brings her and the opportunity to de-stress, stepping away from her own life for a moment.

“I enjoy hearing everyone’s stories and really enjoy the atmosphere at Knightwood”, she says.

Volunteering enriches not just the lives of the residents, but also her own as she feels she leaves with a more positive and optimistic outlook on the world after time well spent in the home.

“I want to brighten people’s days and give back to society.”
