Brendoncare encourages everyone to get physical in September!
Let’s get physical – that’s what Brendoncare is inviting everyone to do through its new month-long initiative, September 30.
This new annual event is designed to promote physical activity especially among older people, bring together communities through the power of movement and boosting wellbeing.
September 30 challenges people of all ages to pledge to be active every day for the 30 days of September, raising awareness of the vital role physical activity plays in preventing health issues such as balance and mobility, muscle frailty – even early onset dementia.
“Movement is fantastic medicine,” says Marie Glen, Brendoncare’s Fundraising Manager. “As we get older, staying active isn’t just about fitness; it’s about independence, mental wellbeing, and staying connected to our communities. No matter what your age – 5 or 105 – everyone is invited to take part.”
Participants are encouraged to choose their own activities, from walking the dog or gardening, to running, yoga, cycling, or taking part in Brendoncare’s programme of suggested daily activities which include accessible seated exercise classes. Whether it’s 30 sit-ups a day or a daily walk with friends, the goal is to have fun and move every day.
While fundraising is not compulsory, Brendoncare is also inviting participants to seek sponsorship for their 30-day activity pledges to raise funds for its community services that support older people. Each donation helps to reduce loneliness, promote healthy ageing, and keep vital community clubs and services running.
Currently, Brendoncare runs 30 in person community clubs, three online clubs for those unable to attend in person activities, two digital cafés and telephone support for members who may be feeling isolated or are facing a life changing event such as bereavement.
